“Trump Recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital and Orders U.S. Embassy to Move” NY Times Headline, December 6, 2017
It’s been a month since Trumps shocking announcement to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, recognizing it as Israel’s official capitol, but why was it so shocking, after all, Jerusalem is technically Israel’s capitol already, and has been since they fully took siege of the entire city from the Ottoman Turks during the 6 day war of 1967? Wasn’t Trump just stating the obvious?
This announcement was so shocking to most of the world; however, that they called an emergency meeting of the United Nations in New York two days after Christmas to discuss Trump’s statement and they held a vote to see how the rest of the UN felt about Trump’s statement. The countries rallied together to vote on whether Jerusalem should be Israel’s capitol and overwhelmingly, the nations voted 128 against Trump’s claim, and only 9 voted for Jerusalem to remain Israel’s capitol. Does this shock you as much as it does me? Would the nations call an emergency session to tell the US that it needed to move its capitol from Washington DC to another state or would it ask France to move their capitol from Paris to Nice? What gives the UN a right to determine where a country’s capitol should be? Why were so many rallied together to vote against Israel? Well, first, most of the nations of the UN are Muslim and Jerusalem is where Mohammad supposedly ascended to heaven. So, they claim this is their holy city; however, Jerusalem is never referenced in the Qu’ran and, in contract, Jerusalem has always been the city of the Jews / Hebrews, as shown in the Bible with many historical references including the building of the first temple by King Solomon. So, Muslim claims do not hold water to the Jewish claims, but this doesn’t stop them from trying to stake their claim. It’s an unbelievably, crazy battle and why is this so for such a seemingly small and unimportant little country? Because, God stated it in His Word, the Bible, as a prophecy that will be coming to pass and seems to be unveiling right before our eyes. Jerusalem has been, and is, a cup of trembling and will become officially surrounded by enemies as the nations of the world will rise up against her one final time.
If Trump is really fulfilling Scripture at this time in history, then he would be paralleling King Cyrus, the gentile king who took a stand for Jerusalem. The only thing left, then, for Trump to fulfill, would be for him to make a statement about the building of the third temple and he would need to do it within the first year of his reign in order for him to completely fulfill the role of King Cyrus. Time will tell on the parallel with this.
“14 Then the Lord said to me:“Out of the north calamity shall break forth on all the inhabitants of the land. 15 For behold, I am calling all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” says the Lord; “They shall come and each one set his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, against all its walls all around, and against all the cities of Judah. “19 They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,” says the Lord, “to deliver you.”” Jeremiah 1:14-15, 19
“The burden[a] of the word of the Lord against Israel. Thus says the Lord, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him: 2 “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. 3 And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it. ” Zechariah 12:1-3
Fear should be for these 128 nations who voted to remove Jerusalem as Israel’s capitol, and the 35 who wouldn’t vote as fear struck them for they wouldn’t take a stance, because this is God’s eternal city of His people and for those who come against His city, the outcome will not be good for those nations in the end.
We see prophecy coming to pass. One day, every one of these nations will bow at the feet of Jesus Christ, if not in willingness now, they will be forced to concede in the end. Yes, it’s much better to recognize Him as Lord now and recognize Jerusalem as His Holy city now, then to wait until the end of these prophecies being fulfilled.
“9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11
