When The Last Trumpet Sounds

“50 I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. ”  1 Corinthians 15:50-53

For much of the Church today, one of the hottest topics is on the rapture of the Church.  Is there actually such a thing where people living on the earth are ‘caught up’ to heaven to meet Jesus in the air?  And, if you believe in one, does it happen before the 7 year Tribulation, during the middle of it, or after it is done?  These are all very important questions, and we will just address something called the Last Trump today to possibly help us to identify when the rapture might occur.

Will we as believers be raised up from the earth whether dead or alive and to meet Jesus in the air prior to His reign on earth?  If we believe God’s Word as literal, then we have several Scriptures which tell us that this is true.

First, those who are alive are caught up to meet Jesus in the air:

15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.”  1 Thessalonians 4:15-18

Second, those who are changed come back to reign with Christ for 1,000 years, but this is after the 7 year tribulation (and after the wedding feast of the Lamb in Revelation 19):

“Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years. (We must go to heaven first to get married to Christ before coming back to reign with Him on earth)”  Revelation 20:6  (This is a 1,000 reign back on the earth again after the Tribulation)

How do we know the rapture would occur prior to the Tribulation?  Besides having to get married to Christ in heaven prior to coming back to the earth to reign, this is also identified:  The man of lawlessness will be revealed at the start of the Tribulation in order to establish the 7 year covenant with Israel.  He cannot be revealed until the restrainer is taken out of the way.  The restrainer is identified as “He” as a proper identifier of God, as in the Holy Spirit who now resides on the earth within the temples of the Holy Spirit, i.e., within the believers of Jesus Christ as their redeemer.  It is stated that we know who He is, so we should be able to easily identify the restrainer.  If it were an angel identified as a restrainer, we would not be able to easily identify him as we are unfamiliar with who each of the angels are and an angel is never identified as a proper, “He,” but rather would only be identified as a “he.”

Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ[a] had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin[b] is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God[c] in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He[d] who now restrains will do so until He[e] is taken out of the way.”  2 Thessalonians 2:1-6

Can we know when the rapture will occur or are we totally in the dark as to when it will occur?  In theology terms, is it truly the “Doctrine of Imminence” in that He can come any any day at any time forever and ever or is an appointed time that we can know?

The Day of the Lord is the final 7 year judgement of the earth, so these verses state that we will know when this is about to occur as identified by the signs in 1 Thessalonians 5 and in Matthew 24.  When we see all of the signs starting, then we know the birth pangs are in progress and it will be soon (read Matthew 24 for the full list of signs).

But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape (not, ‘you shall not escape’ by ‘they shall not’). But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. For God did not appoint us to wrath (so, we shall escape prior to wrath because of verse 3), but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. 11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.”  1 Thessalonians 5:1-10

So, Jesus and Paul state that we shall know the signs leading up to the time of the 7 year Tribulation, but can we narrow it down further to know when the rapture of the Church will occur?

Let’s talk about the Feast of Trumpets.

‘And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work. For you it is a day of blowing the trumpets. You shall offer a burnt offering as a sweet aroma to the Lord: one young bull, one ram, and seven lambs in their first year, without blemish. ”  Numbers 29:1-2

During the Feast of Trumpets, it was a where the people were to come out of the fields and go into the Temple to worship.  It was a holy gathering and is still celebrated today.  This special feast is assumed to be the feast that announces the coming of the Messiah.  Most Jews, however, do not recognize Jesus as their Savior, and so each year during this feast, they highly anticipate the arrival of their Savior to reign from Jerusalem. The feast is not just one day, but is celebrated over a couple of day period which kicks off their official new year.  The new year cannot start though without trumpets, a new moon, and two witnesses.

Each day of the feast, the Sanheidren send out two witnesses to see when the sliver of the new moon would appear.  When they witnessed the sliver, they would report back and then they would blow the Last Trump (There would be 100 trumpet blasts over this couple day celebration in anticipation of when the sliver of the moon would appear. The Last Trump is the final and longest blast.)  Then, after the blowing of the Last Trump, they would officially go to celebrate their holy Sabbath which would kick off the new year.  The calendar year changes here.

When would the two witnesses go outside to view the moon?  This was done at the “twinkling of an eye,” which is defined as the witnessing of three visible stars in the night sky.  Witnessing these three stars officially ends one day and starts another.

So, based off of this passage from Paul, if we are literal in the translation, we can read that the rapture (or the those alive and those who have dead will be changed to imperishable) will occur at the Feast of Trumpets, at twilight (the twinkling of an eye), at the Last Trump (or when the slice of the new moon is viewed and the final 100th trumpet blast is heard).  Many have believed this over the years and have anxiously awaited the fall of each year to see if, in fact, this was the year of the rapture.  Personally, I have just recently discovered this, so I’ve been unaware of this for all the years that I’ve been following Christ, and also, I did not believe in a pre-tribulation rapture until I studied it deeply this past year.

The first comment that comes back when we talk about actually being able to know when the rapture could occur, would be those who claim Matthew 24, we cannot know the day and hour.

36 But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven,[e] but My Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour[f] your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”  Matthew 24: 36-44

First, we need to know that the Jews call the Feast of Tabernacle’s, The Last Trump, “the day that hour no one knows,” because they have no idea of which day they will witness the new moon as it has to be a visible thing.  If the sky is cloudy and it is not witnessed by the eye, the new year cannot start.  So, God is totally in control of when the new moon sliver will occur.  The two witnesses are totally dependent on God only for their viewing.  They are not allowed to look at computer models or anything else.

Second, we need to know what is the context of the Matthew 24 text.  Jesus was talking to Jews about the years of the Tribulation and of His return to reign for 1,000 years.  His disciples had not yet been told about the rapture and since Jesus had not yet ascended to heaven, Father God had also not revealed to Him the date and hour.  We find that Jesus did in fact know the rest of the details after His ascension because Jesus, Himself, gave John the complete vision of Revelation, and we know that Jesus appeared to Paul and later brought Him to heaven to give him revelation as to many things, including the mystery of the rapture.

I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows. And I know that this man was caught up into paradise—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows— and he heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter.”  2 Corinthians 12:2-4

So, knowing this, Jesus tells the disciples in Matthew 24 that the Jews will not know exactly the day and hour of His final return to earth to reign (however, He hints to them by saying they will not know the day and hour puzzle of the Feast of Trumpets), but He had just got done identifying a whole bunch of signs to them related to the season of His return.  And then, He explains further that Jews (Jesus was only sent to share His message with the Jews first so that they might accept Him, but unfortunately, they did not) will be taken by surprise by this event as they definitely will not be expecting it.  They will be witness to this strange occurrence where some people are just taken as a thief in the night.  Two people will be together, and then one of them will just disappear.  This will be a sign to them that the return of the Lord is near; however, they are not given understanding that this was the rapture that occurred since they had rejected the Messiah.

In summary, we can make a Biblical case that the rapture will occur during the Feast of Trumpets at an appointed year set by God.  By doing this on His designated feast day, it will be a statement to the Jews that their Messiah was actually Jesus, and that they have 7 final years to return to Him before He actually comes back to reign on the earth.  They know their prophecies well in the Old Testament, so hopefully, their blinders will be removed after the rapture and they realize their rejection of their savior, Jesus Christ.  It will definitely be an amazing time of revival for them in their last days.  Praise God for coming back to concluding His 70th week with His chosen people, finally bringing them back to the true promised land.

Why might I think that the rapture will occur in 2017 at this Feast of Trumpets, September 21-23?

  1. The Jews in the land now are the final generation as identified in Matthew and Daniel
  2. The Jews are in their final 120th Jubilee year
  3. We are at the 6,000th year since the creation of Adam, God’s timeframe of His workweek ready for the 1,000 year reign of Christ
  4. We are in the days of Noah (people don’t care, don’t expect Christ to return, and are in sin)
  5. All the signs of Matthew 24 have occurred and are occurring more frequently than any time in history
  6. We are at the final church of Laodicea in Revelation 3.
  7. The Jewish year is 5,777, or the year of completed grace.  The drop the ‘5’ like we would with ’20’ in 2017.  So, they identify their year as ‘777.  This is God’s perfect number completed.
  8. In 2015, we received the Bethlehem star in the sky to show a two year warning.
  9. On Aug 21, 2017 we receive a 33 day warning to Gentiles by the Great American Eclipse
  10. Jews received 4 blood moon warnings in 2014-2015 on feast days to show that judgement is coming, their 2 year warning.
  11. Ironically, using a pun, we are at the Last Trump  (Donald Trump as president)
  12. There’s a prophecy from the 1800’s that this is the last Pope
  13. There’s a prophecy from Enoch that we are at the last king of Israel (the 58th)
  14. This Feast of Trumpets will conclude on a Holy Sabbath day (not all of them do)
  15. Israel has been declared a nation for 70 years (a generation) and Jesus said this generation will be around to witness all of the finality of the Tribulation and judgement
  16. Israel got back Jerusalem 50 years ago (a Jublilee)
  17. The first Zion congress started 120 years ago
  18. Discussions started about how to get Israel back into her land 100 years ago
  19. It’s been 40 Jubilees since the death of Jesus
  20. It’s been 70 Jubilees since Moses
  21. It’s been 80 Jubilees since Abraham
  22. It’s been 120 Jubilees since Adam  (All of these are round and complete numbers)
  23. All significant and Jubilee years since Jesus’ death end with a ‘7’
  24. Jesus was born on the Feast of Trumpets, Sept 11, 3 BC, not on Christmas 12/24
  25. From the prophecy of Daniel, the 1260, 1290, & 1335 days works out to land on the correct feast days starting with the beginning of the Feast of Trumpets, 9/21/17, to the middle of the Tribulation (the abomination of desolation on the passover) on 4/2/21, end of the Tribulation, 9/13/24 Day of Atonement and 1/26/24 Feast of Tabernacles
  26. There’s the Revelation 12 sign in the sky on September 23, 2017 which is the sign of the rapture of the Church and start of the Tribulation.  This sign has not occurred since history began to 2,000+ years in the future.

The evidence is convincing and beyond a reasonable doubt.  It’s time to wake up and start watching because this could very well be the year of the rapture of the Church and the start of God’s final 7 years.

Father God, Thank you for the promise of the return of Jesus.  We’ve been waiting for 2,000 years and it would seem like He’s never coming back, but we can go back to your word and believe what you have said that His return is very near as all of the signs have shown their faces.  No matter when you come, we ask that you continue to light a fire within us to give us a new and deep passion for Jesus, keep us grounded in your word, keep us repentant of any sins that we continue to find ourselves in, and to keep us focused on your potential soon return.  Thank you for the blood atonement of the Lamb of God to cover our sins and make us worthy to be dressed in white for the upcoming wedding.

Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,“Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult  and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.

And the angel said[a] to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” 10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”  Revelation 19:6-10
