Today, we’re going to do things a bit different and go through a line by line study of Isaiah 52: 1-12 to see what the Lord might reveal to us in each verse and then in summary at the end. Lord, I pray as we go through this that you help shed some light on each verse to bring a message today of hope.
1 Awake, awake, put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city; for there shall no more come into you the uncircumcised and the unclean.
It’s time to arise and wake out of our sleep, and stand strong, to put on your purified wedding garments for the Lord is on His way. As a believer in Christ, you are now, Jerusalem, the holy city, as you have been grafted into the olive tree (see my previous study on olive trees). You shall have no more attacks from the enemy of darkness as the Lord is fighting your battles. These are the unclean spirits and those who are against the Lord. They will no longer be able to affect you as you have put on your strength in Him.
2 Shake yourself from the dust and arise; be seated, O Jerusalem; loose the bonds from your neck, O captive daughter of Zion.
Stand up and brush all of the previous sin and shame that you have let still cover you. It will shake off as easy as dust. You will be able to loose the bonds as they will no longer hold you captive. You have been given the ability to do this because of Him.
3 For thus says the Lord: “You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money.” 4 For thus says the Lord God: “My people went down at the first into Egypt to sojourn there, and the Assyrian oppressed them for nothing.[a] 5 Now therefore what have I here,” declares the Lord, “seeing that my people are taken away for nothing? Their rulers wail,” declares the Lord, “and continually all the day my name is despised. 6 Therefore my people shall know my name. Therefore in that day they shall know that it is I who speak; here I am.”
You had gone into captivity of your sins, but the Lord will purchase you out of your sins by a way that is not known to the world. You once were included in the world, but you fell into it and it trapped you as a slave. The Lord has seen what they have done to you and how they also despise His name, therefor, He will make His name known to you so that you will know that He is there and He speaks to you.
7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness,
who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
You who spread the good news of peace, happiness, and salvation are beautiful in His eyes.
8 The voice of your watchmen—they lift up their voice; together they sing for joy; for eye to eye they see the return of the Lord to Zion.
You who watch for the Lord’s return, lift up your voice and sing for joy, for you will see His return.
9 Break forth together into singing, you waste places of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people; he has redeemed Jerusalem.
Where you once were left as trash, you are now redeemed. Be comforted and sing for joy, in that you are now His, His purchased treasure.
10 The Lord has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
All the people of the world will feel the arm of His judgement, and all shall see that He favors you and has shown you salvation above them.
11 Depart, depart, go out from there; touch no unclean thing; go out from the midst of her; purify yourselves, you who bear the vessels of the Lord.
Get out of the world. Leave it! Stay away from sins and from evil. Separate yourself from the world, repent of your sins and seek the Lord’s forgiveness, for those who are His can come to Him.
12 For you shall not go out in haste, and you shall not go in flight, for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.
You will be at peace and not rushed for no one is chasing you. The Lord will go before you to protect you and will also be at your back to protect you. You will be completely surrounded by His protection and will have no need to fear.
In full, these verses speak to us as beloved children to God, chosen and redeemed by Him. He is letting us know that He will be our protector and guide and that we should not fear the world and the enemy because they shall affect us no more. If you’ve been brought down in any sins once again, it is time to get away from them and shake them off, repent, and the faithful Lord will forgive you and draw you to Himself and we will see the Lord.
Father, Thank you that you are our protector and shield and that you have chosen to redeem us to yourself. Strengthen us as these verses say so that we are no longer affected by the evil of the world. In Jesus name. Amen.
