“To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.” Proverbs 8:13
Are there things in this world you just hate?
“Hate” definition: intense or passionate dislike. Synonyms: loathing, detesting, dislike, distaste, abhorrence, abomination, aversion, hostile, enmity, animosity, revulsion, disgust, contempt
Most of us were taught from our parents not to hate as we were growing up. We were told to find good in everyone and everything. Hating was a bad thing. As we study the Bible; however, there are things, characteristics, (and, yes, some people) that God hated and still hates. God goes so far as to tell us that if we truly love and fear Him, we will hate in certain circumstances.
To love God is also to hate evil.
Do you find yourself hating evil, hating pride and arrogance, evil behavior, and perverse speech? Or maybe, do you find that you are tolerant, accepting, desensitized, and/or complacent to sin around you and within you? You should have not only a growing love for the Lord Jesus Christ, but at the same time, a growing hate for sin, around you and within you. Are you disgusted yet? It’s a good sign.
“I love those who love me; And those who diligently seek me will find me.” Proverbs 8:17
Father God, Draw us closer to you so that we can love you more completely. Help us to also both love and hate what you love and hate. Open our eyes to the evil around us and within us and help us to be completely disgusted with everything that disgusts you, helping us to stay away from it. Help us also to be a light to those around us to share the love and forgiveness of our Savior, Jesus Christ. In His Name we pray. Amen.
