“He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers.” Isaiah 40:22
We are like grasshoppers.
Grasshoppers have a short lifespan of one year. They are seen as a nuisance by many as they devour crops, especially the locust grasshoppers, and they make annoying on-going noises with their legs…unending ‘chatter.’ In our society and culture, grasshoppers are used as references to: those needing to learn much, those who jump to and fro and cannot focus on anything too long, those who do not prepare for the future, those who ramble without saying much.
Compared to the awesomeness of God, we are as grasshoppers to Him.; however, in spite of our annoyances, our need to learn much, our lack of focus, our inability to prepare fully for our future, our rambling chatter, our Creator chooses not to discard His grasshoppers, but instead, lifts them up on wings of eagles.
- “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31
How blessed are we to know that the God of the Universe cares deeply about His grasshoppers. He strengthens us, renews us, and lifts us up above the situations of this earth to soar with Him.
Thank you, Father, for your tremendous mercy and grace, that you might see grasshoppers as valuable to you!
