Sometimes, God has completely funny one-liners that make me chuckle… “Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward.” Exodus 14:15
“Why are you just whining? Do something!” – God (paraphrased, of course)
God doesn’t want to do everything Himself. He definitely could do everything Himself, but He doesn’t want to. As a parent, do you want to do everything for your children, or do you want to partner with them, helping them to learn and figure things out? Father God is no different. He desires a partnership with us. He wants to answer our prayers. He wants to bless us. He wants to change us. In order to do these things, He desires for us to not just pray about it, but take action on our prayers and partner with Him in what He wants to do.
If we cry out to God to help us to get a job, but then sit on our butts watching soap operas waiting for the phone to magically ring with a job offer, then we will be waiting a very, very long time. God doesn’t normally work like that. True, sometimes God does answer prayers with no effort on our part, but that is not the norm. In this case, God would want to hear our prayers and then have us search for doors to be opened to us, actively seeking which job would be the choice that God would have us do.
If someone needs healing and we just blankly stare at the person when they ask for prayer, will God heal them? Maybe, but really, God wants us to reach out to that person and pray for God to step in. We’ve taken action, and so now God will take action.
God is a God of “If” and “Then.” If we will do this, then God will do that. He wants us to step out and trust Him for the outcome.
- “Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine,” Exodus 19:5
Don’t just stand there. Pray and then act by the guidance and conviction of God’s Holy Spirit!
