My Feet Are On Fire

I heard a true, but freaky story a while back, so I thought I would share.  If you don’t believe in heaven or hell, it will stop to make you think…

Mark flew out to be with his mother in her last hours.  She was passing out of this life.  Before he left on his flight, he was broken-hearted and sobbing.  His mother hadn’t received Jesus as her savior and he was very concerned that she would leave this world just as his dad had just a few years ago…

Mark was able to spend the last few days with his father before he passed as well.  Mark had tried to share the good news of the Gospel of Christ with him on several occasions, and he thought he would try one last time as his father lay helpless in a hospital bed.  His father would hear nothing of Jesus.  He refused to listen and said such things as, “I don’t need your Jesus.”  Shortly after, Mark’s father’s body began shutting down.  He wasn’t able to speak for several days.  Mark remained by his side, heartbroken.  In his dad’s last breath, after not speaking for days, he yelled out at the top of his lungs, “My feet are on fire!  My feet are on fire!”  Then, he died.  Mark cried out in sorrow as he knew where his father was going…

  • “Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave.”  Proverbs 5:5
  • “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”  Matthew 13:46

Scary story and very true!  Have you thought about the concept of heaven and hell?  Some think that when we die, we simply just leave into nothingness.  Some think that we are reborn and come back as someone or something else.  Neither of these is true.  There is one truth, and that is that heaven and hell are real places where we feel either the joy of the Lord in heaven or the pain of being separated from God in hell.

  • If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”  Revelation 20:15

As you read this, are you starting to question where you’ll be?

We don’t like to think of ourselves dying, but we will.  That’s one thing we all have in common.  Where you go after you depart from this world is entirely dependent on what you believe.  Here’s a story of two men from the Bible.  One ended up in heaven, the other in hell…

  • Luke 16:22-31 “”The time came when the beggar [Lazarus, a poor man who had faith in God] died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side [who was in heaven]. The rich man [who depended on his own self and wealth] also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side.  So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire… [and Abraham said] “…between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’  “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father’s house, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’  Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets [which to us means that we have the Bible’s Words and those who preach the good news to us]; let them listen to them.’ ” ‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’  “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead [referencing the resurrection of Jesus].’ ”

Is your heart hardened towards God?  Would you be convinced in God’s sovereignty only if you witnessed a mighty miracle?  Well then, there has been a mighty miracle indeed!

God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to this earth to be born as a man so that He could be sentenced to death and take the punishment for your sins (all the wrong that you’ve done in your life).  God demands a death sentence punishment for sins and since we can never be perfect, He had to make a plan so that we could be saved (from hell and brought into heaven with Him).  His plan was to sacrifice His Son so that we might be saved if we put our trust in Him and believed His mighty, miraculous plan.  Jesus was raised from the dead by God and brought back to heaven just as we will also be raised from the dead and brought to heaven if we put our trust in God’s plan…

  • “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
  • “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”   John 14:6
  • [Jesus said] “I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades [Hell].”  Revelation 1:18

Search it out for yourself.  Get a Bible.  Read the books of John & Romans.  Ask God to show you if it’s true.  He will answer you.
